Olive Branch, MS & Murfreesboro, TN – There were 2 good regional events in the Mid-South this weekend, and with some late night traveling on I-40 Insider Exposure Media was able to see the majority of both events.

Friday we started at Olive Branch high school in Mississippi, unfortunately PCA out of Memphis cancelled at the last minute but we were still able to see 3 good games headlined by Olive Branch vs. North Little Rock in the nightcap.

Saturday we hit Murfreesboro and Stewarts Creek HS for the She Got Game Classic, Nashville edition.

Ranking the Top 5 teams from this weekend –

  1. Hamilton Heights (TN) – Balogun, Massengill and crew got off to a great start (19-2), overwhelming East Carter from Kentucky with size and speed.  Eventually East Carter settled in, cutting the lead to single digits in the second half before Hamilton Heights pulled away at the end to win by 20.  There’s not many teams nationally who can match up with Hamilton Height’s combination of size and speed.

  2. White Station (TN) – Have a high quality team with legit players at a number of positions and are still missing Taylor Williams a D-1 signee.  Beat both Olive Branch and Murrah this weekend.  Have a big time guard in Zaire Hicks and inside players Teal Battle & Damiah Griffin.

  3. Olive Branch (MS) – Looked like they would go down most of the game.  Despite not shooting it well especially in the first half, Olive Branch had hung tough all game against a nationally ranked North Little Rock. Then with under a minute to play Mahogany Vaught had a huge and 1, but missed the FT.  Olive Branch got the ball back and scored, stole the inbounds and scored again for a 3 point comeback win.

  4. North Little Rock (AR) – Came into the weekend ranked 8th in the country but lost to Olive Branch in a game they seemed to control multiple times. Beat a depleted Murrah team who lost to White Station by 20 the night before.  Arguably the most talented team in Olive Branch this weekend.

  5. Stewarts Creek (TN) – The second best team in Murfreesboro is a compliment in most years and I would think this year is no different.  Played Hamilton Heights to a 4 point loss and beat a good Sparkman team from Huntsville, AL on Saturday.  Have 5 legit D-1 prospects in their starting lineup.  The Ferby twins are the most well known secret.

Top Underclassmen with a few short notes  –

Magic Citi –

Demlya Brown – 5’6 SG – North Little Rock (AR) – 2019 – Athletic combo guard who really impressed with her mid range jumper and ability to score.  Her explosiveness off the bounce was also very impressive.

Yo’Myris Morris – 6’2 F – North Little Rock (AR) – 2018 – Have heard good things about Morris’s game and wasn’t disappointed.  Good size and strength which she uses to finish around the basket.

Mahogany Vaught – 5’8 PG – Olive Branch (MS) – 2018 – Very quick change of speed and direction, excellent handles and the ability to make plays all make Mahogany a legit player.  She can be an offensive spark when she gets rolling.

Endya Buford – 5’7 CG – Olive Branch (MS) – 2020 – Was the key reason Olive Branch upset North Little Rock Friday nite.  Scored double figures in the 3rd quarter alone and gave her team a lift when they absolutely needed one.  Did it in a multitude of ways, hit a 3 ball, got to the rim and finished drives and free throws.

Nya Irvin -5’8 CG – Murrah (MS) – 2018 – Ultra athletic lefty guard who can really elevate.  Has a smooth stroke on her jumper which she can shoot from deep.  Needs to develop greater long range consistency, but she’s a legit D-1 prospect.

Elizabeth Balogun – 6’1 SG – Hamilton Heights (TN) – 2018 – Not many teams have as much talent as Hamilton Heights.  If you don’t know Elizabeth Balogun by now, then you’re missing out.  Supremely talented in every way at multiple positions.  Many of the top colleges have her as a their main target.

Kamilla Cardosa – 6’6 Post – Hamilton Heights (TN) – 2020 – Our top 2020 nationally.  Size, strength and understanding of the game are amazing for a player her age.  Her current success has the chance to be the tip of an iceberg.

Treasure Hunt – 6′ G – Hamilton Heights (TN) – 2020 – Had a very good performance today, tallying 20 points.  She hit a few 3’s and had quite a few fast break layups.  She’s really long and fast and today she used that in transition as good as I’ve seen her.

Taylor Hosendove – 6′ PF – Westlake (GA) – 2018 – Physically strong and athletic Taylor has a great frame and can handle the ball well enough to be a perimeter threat as a driver or in transition.

Chandler Prater – 5’11 W – North Kansas City (MO) – 2019 – Was used in a variety of ways. Posted up finishing back to the basket, played the 1 with her good handles and blew by defenders.  Great defensive player with an athletic build.

Angel Lee – 5’9 W – North Kansas City (MO) – 2020 – Was the leading scorer in one of the best games of the day.  Made a very high IQ, pull up jumper from 8 feet away, blocked out most times on defensive rebounds  and had a strong and 1 which impressed me today.

Genesis Bryant – 5’6 PG – Lovejoy (GA) – 2020 – Speedy PG with good handles, Genesis got to rim and created scoring opportunities for her team by drawing fouls.  Made a couple nice reads and passes in pick & roll situations.  Good upside who could benefit adding some strength to her frame.

Kayla Brown – 6’2 Post – Lovejoy (GA) – 2018 – Long wiry post player is suited to the pick and roll situations that she scored out of tonite.  She also finished or was fouled on offensive rebounds.  Did a good job of sprinting the floor.
