ATL Summer Slam

David Kent – Twitter

Friday morning I arrived at a coffee shop in Kennesaw, Georgia, got booked in and said hey to all the coaches and made my way to the first site to start watching games. There was so much talent at this event that I can’t write about everyone but with that being said here are some of the people that stood out to me. From now on I am going to start doing “diamond in the rough” for kids I don’t think colleges  know about but should.

Mykaylyn Davis 5’8 Pg  ’20 FGB 17 UAA

Mykaylyn has a great first step. She’s able to use her speed to get into the lane to score or create for someone else. She’s able to use her basketball IQ as well to create for other people. She had a deadly pull-up game and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing her again in Indianapolis.

Mary McMillan 5’8 Pg ’20 Dme Platinum

Mary did a good job getting into the lane and using her athletic ability to score over taller defenders or create scoring opportunities for other teammates. She has very deep range and can do it off the bounce or the catch.

Sarah Taub 5’8 CG ’22 E33 Eagle

“diamond in the rough”

Sarah might have been one of the best overall basketball players at the event,  not super athletic but extremely high basketball IQ. She did a great job moving without the basketball and she knows how to change speed to create space to get her shot off or get to the bucket. She does a good job of containing offensive players and can play the passing lanes pretty well.

Iycez Adams 6’0 wing ’21 Team Felton 17 rise

Iycez uses her length and athletic ability to guard multiple positions. She is now able to score from all 3 levels. Defensively she does a great job on ball defending and also can come from the help side and deflect or alter shots. She definitely has a tremendous upside.

Quinzia Fulmore 6’3 Post ’21 Team Felton Frank

“diamond in the rough”

Quinzia is a good shot blocker and defender around the rim. She does a good job of cleaning up the boards in and out of her area and has the ability to score in the paint with contact. She definitely has a tremendous upside when she gets in the weight room.

Ashanti Lynch 5’7 Pg ’22 Team Felton 16urise

Ashanti has great size to be a point guard. She understands how to get to the rack and uses her body to score through contact. She did a good job of hitting the 15-footer and knocking down the three ball. She also does a good job of playing passing lanes on the defensive side. Definitely want to see more of her in the future.

Raniyah Hocutt 6’3 Post ’23 Team Felton 16urise

Raniyah has great reach on her and an ablility to alter a lot of shots. She has really big hands and is able to catch everything that hits them. She is right-hand dominant in the post. This kid has a bright future ahead of her and I can’t wait to see what happens after a full year of high school basketball.

Channing Chappell 5’6 Pg ’20 DME gold

Channing is a  high IQ point guard. She is able to knock it down from deep. And also is crafty enough to get into the lane and create for everyone. She can  knockdown the 15-footer and also does a good job defending on the ball.

Nabaweeyah McGee 6’2 F ’24 GA Jaguars

Nabaweeyah has a  great size for her age. She has really good footwork in the post and is able to rebound in and out of her area. When she does get the rebound she’s able to see the outlet and run the floor and finish. I definitely like what I saw and can’t wait to see her again and see what she keeps adding to her game.

Emma Risch 6’0 Wing ’23 ECU Murray

Emma is a very talented shooter able to do it off the bounce or the catch and use her length in size to shoot over defenders. She’s has a great basketball IQ. She has a super bright future ahead of her can’t wait to see her again and see what she adds to our Arsenal.

Mikayla Tolivert 5’8 CG ’21 ECU Murray

Mikayla super athletic guard able to get into the paint and score over taller Defenders by using her athletic ability. Able to knock down the 15-footer. She is able to create for others because of her ability to get to the rim.

Kailyn Gilbert 5’8 PG ’22 FGB

Kailyn is one of the best point guards I’ve seen in her age group. She has to be top 10 in the country. Super athletic and super crafty with a basketball, she’s able to get into the paint at will and create for everybody else on her team.  She can knock down the 15 footer and hit the three ball. Great on-ball defender and definitely can’t wait to see what she brings the next GUAA session

Sydney Bowles 5’11 CG ’22 GA Pearls Jr

Sydney uses her length well to guard multiple positions. She definitely has ice water in her veins. I saw her hit multiple clutch shots and layups throughout the tournament. She has a high basketball IQ and does a good job creating for other people off the bounce.

Sania Feagin 6’4 F ’21 GA Pearls Jr

Sania has a pro skill set and is able to use both hands around the basket. She can knockdown the 15 footer and also able to step out and knock down the three. She’s able to rebound and block out of her area. Top 25 schools,  I don’t understand if you don’t know who this kid is.

Taliah Scott 5’9 CG ’23 South Beach 15 Uaa

Talian is one of the best shooters I’ve seen in the 2023 class. One of the games she knocked down seven or eight threes. She did a great job moving without the ball, using screens to get open. She was ready on the catch to knock it down and able to put the ball on the floor if the defenders ran her off the line. She’s also good at creating for other people on the team.

Chloe Kitts 5’11 CG ’23 South Beach 15 Uaa

Chloe has great length and great skill set for size. She does a great job of passing and seeing the floor and has the ability to find shooters and post players through traffic.  She did a great job getting downhill, creating contact in scoring through it. I can’t wait to see what she looks like after her first year of high school basketball.

Jada Jones 6’3 Post ’23 South Beach 15 Uaa

JD had great size and ability to score in the post with either hand and knock down the 15-footer and hit a couple of Trail threes. She’s able to rebound out of her area and did a great job of running the floor and scoring in traffic. She showed decent footwork around the basket and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what she adds to the Arsenal after a full High School season.

Shakara Anderson 5’10 wing ’21 Team Felton 16 Rise

Shakara reminds me a lot of Paul Pierce, a bigger guard / wing able to run the point at times or take her defender into the post and score with ease. She’s able to knock down the 15-footer in the 3-ball and able to get to the basket with ease. She has really fast hands to get steals and deflections on defense.

Erin Turral 5’6 Pg ’21 FGB UAA

Erin was one of the best PGs at the tournament. Do not let her size discourage you from recruiting this kid. She has a high basketball IQ of using the pick-and-roll to score herself and create for anyone else on her team. A great on-ball defender makes opposing team point guard hard to get into their offense. And she is a floor General on and off.

Katie AmBrose 5’5 PG ’23 Tampa Thunder Phenoms

Katie is a great point guard. She understands how to use the pick-and-roll for herself to score or create for other people. Has a good shot able to do it off the bounce all the catch and she can score from all 3 levels. When she does get into the lane she’s able to score through contact in over top of taller defenders.

Reese  Tremitiere 6’1 forward Tampa Thunder Phenoms

Reese is a great low post offender. She is able to guard taller and more athletic post. She understands how to be a good screener to get herself open and the ball handler. She will knock down the 15-footer pretty consistently and has the ability to rebound and finish through contact.
