Covering Prospective Student-Athletes in the SouthEast US and beyond
by David Kent @coachkent02 on twitter
After working all day at summer Showtime I arrived at ATL open run. Instantly I saw that nyg Hoops did a great job of getting a ton of talent out there in 2 sessions. He also did a great job of getting the college
coaches out there (there were about 20 colleges that stayed for both sessions). With there only being eighty-something campers and it was a two-player to one coach ratio, every kid had an opportunity to be seen by all the coaches there. Here’s some of the kids that stood out my eyes.
Kateri Poole 5″9 Pg NY 20 ( Ohio State commit)
Kateri is great with a ball can create space with the bounce for either shots or to get to the bucket. With her frame she’s able to absorb contact and finish around the basket. On the three-on-three she was able to create scoring opportunities for everybody on the team because of her lethal shooting ability. Super high basketball IQ, can’t wait to see what she does at the Ohio State.
Sierra Johnson 5”9 CG VA 22
Sierra has a beautiful shot. She was able to knock it down from pretty deep because of her high basketball IQ and able to create scoring opportunities for other people that showed on the three-on-three. She has great size as well. Definitely a kid I’d keep my eye on if I was a college coach.
Marissa Wooten 5”8 Pg NC 21
Marissa has a great frame. When she gets downhill she’s able to use her body and length to score over taller defenders using either hand. Good on-ball Defender and able to keep everything in front of her. Able to knock down the 15-footer on a consistent basis.
Callie O’Brien 5”8 PG NY 20
Callie knows how to use her speed and ball-handling ability to create space to get into driving lanes to either score through contact or create scoring opportunities for teammates. She showed that at the camp that she can knock down the three ball or the pull-up jumper.
Blake O’Grady 6”0 CG MA 23
Blake has great size and good athletic ability. She has good footwork in all facets of her game. She’s able to take bigger players off the balance and get to the rack small players she can either shoot over top of them or bull yourself to the cup. College coaches definitely need to know who this kid is.
Savannah Derey 6”0 Wing/Forward Va 21. “ diamond in the rough”
Savannah has great size is able to absorbs contact and finish around the rim. She also did a great job putting it on the deck in two dribbles and getting to the rim or knocking down the 15 to 18 footer. She has decent timing on blocking shots. College coaches you should be definitely be inquiring about this kid.
Eniya Russell 6”1 CG CG MD 20
Eniya has a high basketball IQ and is able to create space to get to the cup and score or knock down the three ball or pull up. She is able to use her size to absorb contact when going to the basket and finishing through contact. She has great hands on the defensive side and able to deflect passes easily. Can’t wait to see where she ends up at the next level.
Raven Preston 6”0 Wing/ guard NC 22
Raven is a good athlete that also has good length and is able to guard multiple positions because of it. Offensively with her speed, she is able to get to the cup and create scoring opportunities for other people.
Laci Steele 5”11 CG Ok 23
Laci plaed so hard on both ends of the floor. She can score from all three levels at a consistent basis. Her size and motor gets her to the rack when she wants to and she’s able to finish through contact. She does a good job of keeping offensive players in front of her. Definitely a kid you need to know.
Ariyana Hayes 6”2 P SC 20
Ariyana’s long athletic post has good timing on her shot blocking ability. She can rebound outside of her area and keeps the ball high when doing so. Definitely needs to get stronger to play at the next level but college coaches definitely need to know who this kid is. She definitely has a tremendous upside.
Thalia Carter 5”7 Pg NC 20 “ diamond in the rough”
Thalia is able to score from all three levels and she does a good job of getting down hill using her body to create space to score over taller Defenders. Definitely has a high basketball IQ and knows how to use the pick-and-roll to score or create shots for other people.
Stina Almqvist 6”1 PG Sweden 21
Stina is highly-skilled point guard that does a great job with the ball in their hands and she’s able to shoot over smaller defenders. Bigger one she’s able to use her length in size to get to the basket. She’s able to knock down the three ball in the 15-footer. She is definitely someone you guys need to know.
Grace Pack 6”4 P Va 22
Grace has great hands and great footwork. Two deadly combinations for a young post player. She does a great job rebounding and keeping the ball high. Definitely shown that she can knock down the 15-footer at a consistent basis and can knock down the three ball as well. She moves well without the ball and is able to get up and down the court as well. Definitely someone you guys need to keep your eye on.
Katie Ambrose 5”5 Pg FL 22
Katie has a tremendous basketball IQ and understands how to use the pick-and-roll to get shots for sale for others. She can score from all three levels at a consistent basis and she does an okay job of creating space with the bounce. Coaches don’t be scared of her height…she can really play.
